Working in Lausanne

Where should you live if you work in Lausanne?

Working in Lausanne does not necessarily mean living in Lausanne. Start with your workplace address, however, rather than the city name alone.

Compare for my workplace

Ouchy, the station and upper Lausanne can mean very different journeys, even within one destination municipality.

Use your office address

A journey to Lausanne station does not necessarily measure your commute to work. The final bus, walking section and connection can change the result. Select the business or exact address in the search.

For an office at IMD, for example, use the IMD address rather than a generic Lausanne destination. This guide does not mark any municipality as automatically compatible: your address, mode and maximum journey determine the possibilities.

Compare using your actual transport mode

For public transport, specify your latest arrival time and consider the whole journey. A station-to-station service is not enough: access to the home and workplace also matters. Check the timetable afterwards with SBB.

PlaceForMe driving results do not include real-time traffic and therefore do not guarantee rush-hour journey times. Check parking, final access and the return journey too.

  • The exact address matters as much as the municipality name.
  • Connections and walking access are part of everyday travel.
  • A short journey in one scenario is not a promise for every time of day.

Explore different directions without assuming the outcome

Renens and Ecublens to the west, Pully and Lutry to the east, or Le Mont-sur-Lausanne and Epalinges to the north can be geographical starting points. These examples are neither exhaustive nor a claim that they meet your limit.

For a more rural setting, let the calculation identify possible municipalities before increasing that preference in the refinements. Nearby countryside on a map is not always better connected; a sector in another municipality may work better for your office address.

Choose a compromise you can live with

Compare a few compatible municipalities, then look at the services that matter to you. A place to live is more than a commute: housing, shopping, schools and leisure count too.

A rural preference does not guarantee a quiet street, absence of traffic or better air quality. Visit prospective homes and check those points at their exact addresses. With two jobs in a household, use “As a couple” rather than assuming your partner’s commute will follow yours.

Sources and method

Municipality examples are geographical starting points, not calculated results. This guide explains the current PlaceForMe method and publishes no personal profile. Confirm timetables and local information with the relevant sources.
